SHADE COFFEE COCOA & REFORESTATION PROJECT
ECOTIERRA’s Shade Coffee and Cocoa Reforestation Project, is a large scale reforestation initiative with strong socio-economic and environmental benefits.
This Peruvian-based project spans from Ecuador to Bolivia, on the eastern side of the Andes.
Validated as a "Grouped Project" under the VCS standard, the SCCRP allows for continuous enrollment of registered degraded and deforested lands during a 10 year period ending in 2022.
Approved parcels will be reforested utilizing trees that create shade or permanent boundaries to high-value commercial crops such as coffee and cocoa.
These newly forested lands will then become a source of sustainable development for local communities.
The project offers the producers the use of 30 different types of mostly indigenous trees in order to create an agroforestry system that can maximize the crop yield.
